Lutheran School of Lexington Parent Child-Development Resources: First Steps Program (Bluegrass) http://bluegrass.org/entities/CMH/IDD/f_home.shtml First Steps is Kentucky’s Early Intervention System that serves children from birth to the age of three who have developmental delays or a medical condition that is known to cause a delay. The bluegrass.org Office provides screening and eligibility determination for all referrals, as well as service coordination for families who have children in the First Steps Program. Child Evaluation Specialists will: - Screen all referrals to determine if the child has a potential delay.
- Complete evaluations and assessments of children for eligibility determination and program planning.
Service Coordinators will: +Guide families through the First Steps program. +Coordinate developmental evaluations and determinations regarding eligibility. +Assist family with obtaining on-going intervention services for their child, if eligible. +Assist family with locating other community resources that may provide additional supports to their family.
Therapists or Interventionists provide early intervention services in the child’s natural environment (home, daycare and community). This allows the parents or caregivers the opportunity to learn activities that promote the child’s development. HANDS – The Health Access Nurturing Development Services (HANDS) program is a voluntary home visitation program for new and expectant parents. Families meet with a HANDS Parent Visitor who will discuss any questions or concerns about pregnancy or a baby’s first years. Then based on the information from the visit, the families receive resources based on their concerns. Child Care Health Consultants for Healthy Start in Child Care – Child Care Health Consultants provide consultation on health, safety and nutrition to child care providers. Trained Child Care Health Consultants from local health departments participate in joint activities with the resource and referral agencies in their area to ensure collaboration and coordination regarding health, safety and nutrition issues impacting the quality of child care. Hemophilia: The Kentucky Hemophilia Program, part of the Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs (CCSHCN), provides ongoing care to children and adults with hemophilia. Immunization: Information for children. Medicaid: Assigned to purchase quality healthcare and related services that produce positive outcomes for persons eligible for programs administered by the Department. Newborn Hearing Screening: The Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs manages the Newborn Hearing Screening Program, which ensures that all newborns receive a hearing screening before leaving the hospital.
